Updating how we share development progress

Jan 29 • 2 min read

As we continue rebuilding PaintSquad from the ground up, we’ve found that regular monthly recaps haven’t always been the best fit. As a result, we’re adjusting how we share development updates going forward.

Hi everyone!

For some time now, we’ve been publishing monthly recaps to keep you informed about development progress. Over the past few months, however, we’ve found that this format hasn’t been working particularly well for the kind of work we’re doing currently. Because of that, we’ll be making some changes to this approach in 2026.

Much of our recent work has been focused on foundational changes behind the scenes. This includes migrating our codebase from Java to Kotlin and reworking large parts of the project architecture from scratch. The coming months will likely look similar. While this work is essential and will ultimately allow us to deliver a better experience, it’s difficult to summarize in a short update every single month. In many cases, it also doesn’t translate well into something interesting or useful to read.

That said, we still consider it important to keep you – our community – informed about what’s happening. Rather than discontinuing these updates entirely, we’ll be replacing the Monthly Recaps with Development Updates.

These updates won’t follow a fixed schedule. Instead, they’ll be published whenever there’s something concrete to share – whether that ends up being monthly, multiple months apart, or more frequently during especially active periods.

We hope you understand our decision and see this as a reasonable compromise. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work on the future of PaintSquad! 💚
